This position is located at a Forest Service Supervisor's Office and is responsible for providing administrative, secretarial, and clerical assistance to the Forest Supervisor. This position serves as a personal assistant with responsibility for maintaining effective communication channels with internal and external contacts. The incumbent assists the Forest Supervisor in dealing with very confidential and controversial matters.
USCITIZEN SSR US Citizenship is required. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Maintains the Forest Supervisor's daily calendar, making appointments and arranging conferences and meetings without specific prior approval, based on knowledge of the Forest Supervisor's schedule and priorities. On own initiative, makes arrangements for such meetings by reserving space, setting the specific time, and contacting all personnel expected to attend.
Anticipates need for and conducts research for information, and obtains data from files and records. Provides advice to subordinate personnel on the Forest Supervisor's policies, directives and instructions.
Reviews all outgoing correspondence for neatness, accuracy, adherence to established format, and adherence to the Forest Service policies. Drafts correspondence, such as routine official correspondence, memoranda regarding confidential union and/or personnel related issues, social and personal acknowledgments, congratulatory letters, and routine office reports. Ensures proper spelling, punctuation, grammar, and formatting.
Receives all visitors and telephone calls for the Forest Supervisor. Determines the nature and purpose of calls, gathers background information, and refers to appropriate responder, i.e. Forest Supervisor, staff member, or personally handles the matters.
Serves as back up for the Records Manager and files electronic mail in the proper file designations for the program area.

GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level; bachelor''s degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school; and/or combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
Examples of specialized experience are: Performing general clerical support such as greeting visitors, maintaining files, and typing letters; assisting in the analysis of incoming routine and controlled correspondence, including mail, cables, faxes, and documents; reviewing sections of agency or organizational directives and procedures to perform routine tasks such as correspondence work, filing and processing mail.
GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; six months (9 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example Business Administration); and/or combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
Examples of specialized experience are: Establishing and maintaining official program files from initial receipt of materials to closeout and disposition of the files; completing support work in the area of human resources or correspondence control; assisting with scheduling and monitoring of procurement transactions for the full range of standard items and services to meet the organization''s needs.

GS-08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; 18 months (27 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example Business Administration); and/or combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
Examples of specialized experience are: Providing clerical and administrative support and assistance on a full range of programs, policies, relationships and activities; maintaining calendar of events for supervisor and/or staff units, including all necessary travel arrangements; receiving and screening telephone and personal callers; and/or participating in all Leadership Team activities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
